I love protests. I especially love the chants.
“Hey hey! Ho Ho! Donald Trump has got to go, Hey Hey! Ho Ho!”
“This is what Democracy looks like!” shouts the ringleader, as the peons follow in unison, “This is what Democracy looks like!”
Thousands join “No Kings” protests across New York’s Capital Region
The irony is… I wrote the above statements before finding the video, which contains those exact quotes.
There is something so… Disney about it all…
…as if Gaston’s goons or the Seven Dwarves or the Hyena’s are singing alongside…
No… they are like Oompa Loompa’s! Or The Lollipop Guild.
There is a fantasy component to these protests that only Nobuo Uematsu or Shigeru Miyamoto could capture. That is pristine!
I, along with Spencer from Stadia Dispatch, attended the No Kings Protest at the Arizona State Capitol in Phoenix to understand the patrons; Who is their enemy? What brought them out here? Where do they believe the country should go?
The Capitol protest was scheduled from 0900 – 1300, and I arrived at 1300. The attendance was still high, but dying down. We still had the opportunity to interview exiting and remaining patrons and we learned… nothing. I seek depth and understanding and am met with the same platitudes, sentiment, and overarching generalizations as similar protests.
Nevertheless, we had a great time, caught up with an old friend, and attempted making new ones.
